What Is Cranium Club?

Cranium Club is an educational opportunity available to all students in my classroom.  It is composed of 100 educational challenges that student complete on their own time.  Challenges vary in topic.  There are educational challenges available in History & Geography, Mathematics, The English Language, Science, and a Miscellaneous category.  Cranium Club reviews important concepts from previous years, topics in the 3rd grade curriculum, and (for a real challenge) concepts from upper elementary and Middle School too!

SOCKTOBER Sock Drive

3rd and 4th Grade Gifted students are sponsoring a Sock Drive in October. They are declaring October SOCKTOBER! They will donate the socks to the homeless men,

women and children at the Sulzbacher Center in downtown Jacksonville. The students

researched a need in our community and thought they could make a difference. Please support

our SOCK DRIVE during the month of October.

CLASS MEETING

At each grade level, we start our day with a Class Meeting. During our class meeting we pass around a stuffed animal and give each other compliments, ask for a compliment, or pass along the stuffed animal. This activity builds the students' social processes by guiding them toward productive interpersonal techniques, self-awareness, and a positive self-esteem. As children give or get compliments we work on looking at the person who is talking and acknowledging the compliment by saying "thank you".

PASSION PROJECTS

5th graders were introduced to their next BIG in-class project.

Q: What is the Passion Project?
APassion Project GOAL

*Take something that is important or interesting to YOU
                          and do something about it!
* Learn something and have fun along the way.

We visited the website http:www.startasnowball.com and watched how other children took a passion and made it into a project. These children made a difference. They made the world a better place. This is my goal for the individual projects that the 5th graders will be involved in this year.
